Indian Police Service is concerned in maintaining a law and order in the country. This is the highly uniformed service in India. Members of the Indian Police service are recruited through a national competitive examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission.

Members of this service are responsible for the internal security and maintenance of law and order. They can work in security forces and traffic police. Working institutions include CID, CRPF, ITBP and CISF. At central level they can join Intelligence Bureau and Special Protection Group. The salary is very high compared to other government officials. Candidate must have possessed the bachelor degree from any recognized university under UGC. A candidate must be above 21 years and not more than 33 years old. One will then be able to appear into prelims exam which is objective type of exam consisting of two papers namely general knowledge and aptitude respectively. After passing the prelims one has to appear for mains exam which is totally written exam consisting of 7 papers. Personal interview is the final hurdle. After that, based on the merit, one should get the appointment in Indian Police Services.
